Profile

I have lived in Newtown for over 50 years, moving to the new Development Board for Rural Wales housing estate in Trehafren, moving up from South Wales. I attended Maesyrhandir Primary School, Newtown High School and Coleg Powys. I am married to Steve and have a 14-year-old son, who attended St Marys RC School and is currently in Year 9 in Newtown High School. I am currently employed by a local business, one who has recently celebrated 50 years of trading. I have a degree in Business and Management and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education.

I am applying to be a Town Councillor as I want to work alongside other councillors to help with the continuous improvements to our town and community to benefit both our town residents and visitors to the town. We live in a beautiful area and in an historic town which should be celebrated, through local events and educational settings.

Communities across the country are facing hardships and challenges caused by many national and global issues which are affecting all aspects of people’s lives. I feel that Newtown has the potential to buck some of these trends and strengthen our local community. We are living in an increasingly diverse community, and we should try to embrace this and encourage people moving into the area to join with the rest of the town in celebrating and developing our Newtonian spirit.

If I am elected as a Town Councillor, I would like to be able to assist in further improving the town, working with the residents of my ward to help give them a voice. I have seen over the years how challenging it can be, being in a position of authority and helping people. I know I can make a difference and would relish the opportunity to help.

Attendance Record

Your Council’s decisions are made at meetings of the council or its committees.  Your Councillors have a duty to attend all meetings of the Council and meetings of the Committees of which they are members, unless an absence is approved by the meeting for a stated reason, for example a council duty elsewhere or ill-health.

Note that some councillors have been required to attend more meetings than others by reason, for example, of a shorter term of office or lesser number of committees to which elected, so the reader is advised to consider both the total number and the percentage when interpreting the attendance record.
