Your Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town council makes this statement further to its debate
and decisions at a reconvened meeting on the evening of 14th Apr’25 concerning meeting
and arrangements and physical access to them by your councillors.
Your council has apologised to the two councillors involved for discrimination that have, or
may have, occurred during recent council meetings and now writes to apologise to the
public they represent.
Your council has further committed to corrective action to help ensure that such incidents
do not occur again. In response to these specific events, it is also implementing the
following measures,
- To authorise officers to seek alternative venues in situations where there is deemed
to be a disadvantaged physical attendance by a registered disabled councillor, with
the intention of returning to Sarah Brisco House council chamber at the earliest
opportunity when circumstances permit - To modify the council’s statutory training plan to include Equality & Diversity training
- To look into the feasibility of having a disabled persons’ advocate to ensure the
council is inclusive and diverse - The values and principles of respect, equality and inclusion are fundamental to the council’s
mission, and deviation from these do not reflect the standards the council strives to uphold. - A record of the decision can be found in the minutes of the meeting 24th Mar’25 at
