At its meeting 27th October 2025 your Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council debated a motion concerning a presence of recognised far right and neo nazi organisations at the recent demonstration, held in Newtown on 13th September 2025. Before the debate, members of the public addressed the meeting.
After a wide-ranging debate covering topics such as community concerns and perceived divisions and the defence of free speech, your council resolved that it wishes to make the following statement…
1. Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council supports the principle of free speech, peaceful protest and the right to express thoughts and ideas without fear of censorship or societal repression
2. Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council proudly flies the Draig Goch and Union Flag as symbols of unity, pride and welcome
3. This Council welcomes the strong and diverse community in Newtown. It condemns and opposes any presence or protest by proscribed organisations in our town now and in the future.
