Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council is delighted to welcome a new second Community Youth Representative, bringing fresh energy, local knowledge and a strong passion for community engagement.
Having spent his entire life in Newtown, Cameron Molloy has developed a deep-rooted connection to the area. This lifelong experience provides him with a clear understanding of both the opportunities and the challenges facing the town. Over the years, he has built strong relationships with residents, community organisations, and local groups, giving him a broad perspective on the needs of the community.
A particularly important aspect of his involvement has been through local sport. Football, in particular, has played a central role in his community engagement. His experience as a referee, a player, and a spectator has enabled him to interact with a wide range of people of different ages and backgrounds. Through this, he has gained valuable insight into the operation of local clubs, the importance of volunteers, and the needs of grassroots sport.
This combination of personal experience and practical involvement has helped him develop strong communication skills and a grounded understanding of how community initiatives operate on a day-to-day basis.
His decision to take on the role of Community Youth Representative is driven by both a commitment to Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn and a desire to contribute to its future. He sees the position as an important opportunity to engage more deeply with the community while also developing his interest in public service and local democracy and governance.
He has outlined several areas of particular interest, including:
- Supporting grassroots sport and local clubs
- Improving community facilities
- Encouraging greater participation among young people
- Ensuring that local voices are represented in decision-making.
These priorities reflect not only his own experience but also the concerns and aspirations of many young people in Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn.
The Town Council is confident that his enthusiasm, local knowledge, and commitment will make a positive contribution to the role. His co-option marks another step in strengthening youth representation and ensuring that younger residents have a channel for a meaningful voice in shaping the future of the town.
A town council spokesperson said “We look forward to seeing the impact of his work and to supporting him as he begins this new role”.
