Following the recent resignation of Town Councillor Val Howard, a casual vacancy has been declared in the office of Town Councillor for East Ward.
This is an opportunity to call for an election to the vacant office of town councillor.
Town Clerk, Ed Humphreys, adds “Your town council, as part of a representative democracy, is composed of the people the community elects to make decisions locally, on its behalf and in its best interests. If you have ideas to help, make this community a better place to live, learn, work, or visit, and feel able to persuade others of their benefit over their cost, this is your opportunity. However, it’s important to recognise that this opportunity extends beyond simply calling for an election; it is an invitation to consider standing as a town councillor. This role offers the chance to actively contribute to your town’s well-being, to represent the diverse voices within your community, and to work collaboratively towards a brighter future for all”.
An election will be held if within 14 working days of publication of the declaration, a request in writing for an election is given to the Deputy Returning Officer by TEN electors for the electoral area.
A request should be sent by letter / post to:

Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council would like to express its gratitude to Val for the time and effort she has given to the people of Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn in her role as Town Councillor. The town clerk adds “Val has served continuously as a town councillor since 1999, four of those years as Mayor, and is well known across the community. That’s quite a contribution, and I hope the community will find another one of its own to follow her example.
