Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council is pleased to announce the elections of Cllr Margaret Lewington as Town Mayor and Cllr Rupert Taylor as Deputy Town Mayor, marking an exciting new chapter for the town.

Cllr Lewington, who joined the Council through co-option on 25 July 2022, has demonstrated strong commitment to public service from the outset. Representing the West Ward, she has actively contributed to several Council committees, including Economy and Environment, Services, Strategy and Corporate Projects, and is the current Chair of the Sarah Brisco House Joint Transformation Board while playing a key role in strengthening community engagement and collaboration.

Having previously served as Deputy Town Mayor, she has already supported civic leadership and helped foster a strong sense of community spirit across the community.

Cllr Rupert Taylor, who was first co-opted on 26 June 2017 and re-elected on 9 May 2022, brings valuable experience and continuity to the role of Deputy Town Mayor. As Chair of the Resources Committee, he has been closely involved in delivering community benefits, including supporting grant funding for local initiatives that promote wellbeing, inclusion and environmental sustainability.

Both councillors have played a part in the wider work of the Town Council, which focuses on improving quality of life in Newtown through maintaining public spaces, supporting events, and enabling community-led projects.

As Town Mayor, Cllr Lewington will take on a leading civic role, representing the town and working closely with fellow councillors, staff and community partners to continue delivering positive outcomes. Alongside her, Cllr Taylor will provide support and leadership as Deputy Town Mayor.

The Town Council looks forward to the contribution they will make over the coming term, building on a strong foundation of collaboration, innovation, and community spirit.
