Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council is pleased to announce the co-option of Heidi Rhiann as the newest councillor representing the East Ward. Two candidates came forward and we would like to express our thanks to both for their interest.
Cllr Heidi was co-opted onto the Council following the vacancy created on the retirement of ex-Cllr Val Howard, whose contribution and service to the local community are sincerely appreciated.
A respected local business owner and caterer, Cllr Heidi brings a wealth of practical experience, community knowledge and a strong commitment to the area. The Council looks forward to benefiting from Cllr Heidi’s skills and perspective in serving local residents.
The vacancy was filled through the co-option process, which is used when no election is called by electors, following the publication of notice of a vacancy. In these circumstances, the Council is required to fill the position by co-option.

Further Opportunity to Join the Council
The Council is also seeking applications to co-opt to a second vacancy in the East Ward following the recent departure of ex-Cllr Kevin Mitchell.
Local residents with an interest in supporting their community and contributing to local decision-making are encouraged to apply.
The closing date for co-option applications is 9.00am on Monday 14 September 2026.
